bullet   What are the treatments?

The principles of treatment that guide the doctor of TCM are: treating the cause of an illness directly; treating the cause and supporting and encouraging the body's own ability to "cure" the illness; or supporting the body without treating the cause directly. Treatment may incorporate herbal remedies, acupuncture, diet, exercise, and massage.

  1. Herbal Remedies (for Internal and External Usage)
Once an illness is diagnosed, Doctors prescribe an herbal formula that may include as many as 20 or more ingredients. Prescriptions are based on some standard formulas or modern clinical trials, but some patient will also be given a unique formula to match his/her unique state of ill health and his/her constitution. Although preparing teas can be time-consuming (the teas may have to be steeped, then boiled and strained), this may be the best way to obtain an individually tailored treatment and desired effects.

  2. Acupuncture (Regular, Electric and Heat)
By inserting fine needles into the body, the treatment may stimulate the immune system by increasing the production of interferons (chemical messengers), improving the bacteria-killing ability of white blood cells and increasing the number of red blood cells. The use of needles (only disposable needles are used) is virtually painless, safe and highly effective.

  3. Acupressure (Chinese Medical Massage therapy)
It refers to a system of massage, body manipulation, and stimulation of acupuncture points by hand. This therapy is used to correct imbalances, create relaxation and achieve harmony in the body’s system.

  4. Chinese Herbal Patent Medicine
In addition to acupuncture and prescribed herbal medicine, a large range of easy to use Chinese patent medicines (herbal tablets, herbal pills and herbal lotions) is also available over the counter.
